The Rock Church Drama Department ministered in a "different way". Eighteen performers presented a form of drama not yet seen before by the congregation of the Rock Church. This form of production is called "Readers Theatre". (A performance of literature, as a story, play, etc., read aloud expressively by one or more persons, rather than acted.)

"One Voice" was originally written by Rev. Howi Tiller. Each individual in the group have their own script and parts to read as "ONE VOICE". This piece was very serious with specific docrinal scripture referrences along with several "surprises" of humor by the youngest cast member.

The Extreme Team for Kids from The Rock Church of Elk Grove/Sacramento,CA competed in The One Way Street International Conference and Competition Seminar February 24, 2007. Under the Leadership of Matt Jones, this team young Apostolic group not only won the Gold Award for the "Human Video" Catagory, but captured the "Peoples' Choice Award" with screams, hoots, and wild applause. This was the first of it's kind in the many years of competition according to the Clinicians of the Program. The drama was directed by Chris Lombardo (also played Satan). The song performed is by Carmen.

Where else would you want to celebrate our Freedom than at a Freedom Week Celebration Camp, July 2 - 6. The Rock Church Drama Department produced and performed "FREEDOM SONG" by Jonathan Moore.
Using black light, neon paint, white gloves, the Christian Flag and the United States Flag, our team ministered to 250 Senior Camp members at Old Oak Ranch in Sonora, CA.
"Freedom Song" comprises of Sign Language, dowel rods and hand characterization to bring to you the message of Hope, Love, and appreciation for the FREEDOM we have in this country.
The USA is the Greatest Nation on the face of the Planet and we are truly blessed to be Americans, but especially blessed to be Children of the KING that grants that ultimate FREEDOM... in the Spirit.

The Rock Church Drama Department - Extended Hands, performed this past weekend at "Midnight Madness" in San Jose, CA where Bro Jonathan Shoemakes is the pastor Bro Jason West MC'd the event with churches representing as far away as Tennesee and Texas.
We received a Standing Ovation. Not for us, but for JESUS.
We adapted this unique "sign language/drama piece" from YouTube. The Wisconsin UPC Conf performed "Who Am I". We instantly wanted to do this sketch/skit/?. We had a blast... enjoy!

C.O.D.E. West was incredible!

Several unique classes and additions to the teaching staff made this Conference Of Drama Evangelism a wonderful time!

Rev. John Thorsen taught puppetry and ventriloquism.
Jeff Wallenfelsz presented classes in Scene Painting, Set Design and Foam Sculpting
Susan Frost added her talents in Children's Musical Productions with a multitude of examples and helps.

Classes in Acting, Directing, Playwriting, Mime, Lighting, Stage Combat, Street Drama, Kid's Power Hour and much more filled in three days of wonderful training.

Thursday night's Drama Revue was so very powerful! The Spirit of the Lord fell mightily and the worship was intense.

Friday Evening was highlighted with the production of The Quickening! With Howi Tiller as Skeptic, Gaylen Cantrell as Ponder and Terry Vik as Guide. Both laughter and self examination was drawn out of the audience and another time of worship was experienced.

Saturday was capped with a beautiful portrayal of Paul in prison by Rev. Kelly Ventura. He quoted the entire book of II Timothy and drew us into the mind and emotions of the Apostle.

YEEEEE HAWWWW!

CODE WEST 06 was incredible. Noted as one/if not the BEST Revue Night EVER and the ROCK CHURCH Drama Department was chosen to help launch the event. (details later)

WEDNESDAY, June 21

We met at the church on Wednesday afternoon at 2:30pm to leave at 3:00 on the dot... well, we didn't know at the time but our bus driver and Associate Director, Bro Brett Goodenough and Sis Belinda got a FLAT tire... Ahhhh! As the team waiting (im)patiently in the church foyer, Bro Lombardo took care of the necessary paperwork for permission slips, requesitions, and event coordination and thought he LOST a deposit... another AHHH! Searching the office and trying to retrace his steps, he thought, "DUH, let me check my briefcase one more time." Needless to say... it was in the little plastic baggie at the bottom of the bag. Bro and Sister Goodenough made it to the church, got the bus ready and loaded...it was now 4:30 pm with a minimum 4 hours of travel time.

For the largest individual church group outside of the local Hanford group coming to CODE WEST, The Rock Church Drama Department of 33 cast members headed down the road with the mission in mind... "We just want to be used as a vessel of honor." in 104 degrees with the heater in the bus stuck on high with no air conditioning... Never-the-less we were too excited to get there in the "BIG BLUE TWINKIE"

We made it to our hotel in Hanford after several phone calls to Bro. Tiller to coordinate the opening presentation of "The Presence of the Lord is Here". Bro. Tiller originally asked for 15 cast members to make this happen... but by the time we checked into our hotel rooms it was already 10:30 pm and we were excited, yet very exhausted. We agreed that we would get a good nights rest and practice the NEW song first thing in the morning and then again before Thursday Nights' Revue.

We hit the sack!

This year we are taking about 32 people from the Rock Church and every year it gets better and better.

I believe Thursday Night, we will be performing "ONE VOICE" written by Rev. Howi Tiller. He requested that we perform it that night. WOW!! What an honor... And we are EXCITED.

We are also working on 3 new pieces... What are they? Well, you just gotta come and see! Trust me, it will be awesome.

We have a great team this year with a lot of new younger "thespians" that are truly enthused to go. A lot of successful fundraisers with 1 to go and one "ON-Going".

We will leave on Wednesday, June 21st from the Rock Church at 3PM sharp. So if you are going... be there by 2:30PM. Also, make sure all paperwork is turned in with ALL of the fundraiser $$ to me.

We will return on Saturday, June 24 at approx. 7:30 PM or sooner.

GOD is blessing the Rock Church Drama Dept as we desire to be a blessing.

We had a blast Tuesday Night at the Rock Church - Sacramento, CA. The annual Rock Church Info Fair featured 35+ booths that displayed various ministries of the Rock Church. The Drama Group came out in full force with 26 members dressed in 1950's attire to introduce our newest play in the making. We had a Blast before, during and after the fair. We all worked hard and we want to thank all of the Drama Club members and parents that helped out. A special thanks goes to Sisters Angel, Bubbles, and GiGi for your leadership, dedication and hard work.

The Rock Church Drama Department - "Impact Ministries" has traveled to Stockton, CA to minister for Pastor Eric Westland and Cornerstone Community Church. The drama group that ministers in sign language and dowel rods is called "Extended Hands". Extended hands performed: The End of the Beginning, The Presence of the Lord is Here, For Every Mountain. (originated by Howi Tiller) . We wrapped the day up with "The Pearl of Great Price" performed Chris Lombardo and Brett Goodenough. The altars began to fill as Pastor Westland gave the call for the congregation to "give all they had to obtain the pearl of great price". Healing, Power, and Victory.

It is a clearing house for information, registration and news. There is a schedule of all of the CODEs for 2006 and a way to register for each. Please notice that there is a new registration price and the earlier you register the lower the price!
So please preregister! (the price goes up by $5.00 per person 30 days before the event and another $5.00 if you register AT THE DOOR!) So start your planning now. As we get closer to the event more detailed info on each event will be posted.
Also, beginning in October there will be an ad in the 'Perspectives' magazine each month for a year! Praise the Lord!

This is a great example what "NOT to do" when you are performing before a huge audience. We were short 2 performers and needed some substitutes and figured, "everyone knows Arise My Love" ... so I thought. See this... (cough) classic dowel routine that turns bad at a talent show...(all in fun!)

Extended Hands took part in the Rock Church Worship Zone - RockStars Talent Show. The End of the Beginning. Daniel Cleveland took the leadership role and not only did an awesome job but he was ANOINTED! The entire congregation was stirred and touched. Many many comments of feeling the Holy Ghost and crying through the entire piece. God is moving and we want to be a part.

1. What is the mission statement for IMPACT ministry?

The Mission Statement for Impact Ministries is borrowed from Bro Howi Tiller... "Altar Calls, not Curtain Calls". To borrow another quote from Pastor Vaughn Morton, "If you ain't got the anointin', you ain't got nothin'!"

2. How many people are involved in IMPACT ministry currently?

Currently we have 10-12 regular members attending our Drama Club meetings. This group is growing every month. Here we learn basic theatrical techniques such as blocking, voice projection, and stage presence. We also attend special seminars and conferences to enhance our abilities and skills. There is much more to drama than memorizing a script and wearing a costume.

3. What types of presentations do you give, i.e. skits, sticks, dramas, etc...?

Impact Ministries is really broken into, but not limited to several categories. Any major production can consist of a cast and crew of between 25 to 150 members. Live music, special effects, multimedia and video presentations. We have a lot of talent in the Rock Church that help out. Currently we have teams for announcements and special services called the Messengers, developed by Bro. Don Scott. This group usually consists of 4-7 people that perform small sketches and comedies. We have a Dowel Rod team called "Extended Hands". This group of young people perform to a song using painted dowel rods and/or sign language or both. The interpretation of the song is choreographed to help the audience "SEE" the message. This is all done without saying a word! Mini dramas, Mystery Dinners, performances in the park, monologues, and Sermon Accompaniments are all a part of this ever-expanding ministry.

4. What is your ultimate goal for IMPACT?

Our goals are to purposely reach for and affect the souls of men and through people that are passionate about this ministry. We would love to provide an "avenue" to restore the soul of man, whether saint or sinner, to a "higher" level of an understanding of Jesus, through drama. We'll make you laugh, and we'll make you cry, but rest assured, you will hear the doctrine and the message of what we believe as One-God Apostolics...that is our ultimate goal. We also look forward to Radio Dramatizations and getting this message out unto the world via the web.

5. Are you currently recruiting for more people to join your team? If so how many and what age groups?

ANYBODY and EVERYBODY is welcomed to be a part of IMPACT MINISTRIES. This is not a special exclusive club to join. I don't hold a degree in Dramatic Arts. We meet in the sanctuary 2 nights of the month. We post announcements to let everyone know. We are always looking for new ideas and need anyone from 9 days to 90 years old. Drama is acting out 'everyday life'. Every age group is represented.
If God inspired you to write a script or a special song, don't bury it in the dirt and waste your talent. Bring it to us. We have recruited the "Quiet and Shy" people to fill in a spot within a sketch and they were so scared, but afterwards, they volunteered for the next drama. As I mentioned before, there is SO MUCH dramatic talent in the Rock Church. Think about this, Bishop Wilson and Pastor Young use Drama almost every time they preach when they illustrate their sermons using a person from the audience or teach us an object lesson. This is all part of DRAMA.

6. List a couple of significant presentations or experiences that you have had while leading IMPACT ministry

I love working with the youth. What a challenge! Whew! I love to teach and watch someone who may not be used as a special singer or choir member, blossom as a drama minister. We fall hand-in-hand with the mission of the Rock Church of "Helping People Become..." and "Every member a Minister". Each drama member, on stage, becomes a minister of the Gospel. Every Drama Club member knows that their performance is not for their own glory, but for the Glory of God. We have witnessed the Holy Ghost move in and capture the audience in the midst of a scene where the cast couldn't even complete their lines.

Looking back over the years that we have been involved as leaders of Impact Ministries/Drama Department, our team has written and performed many sketches.

War of 2 Worlds, written by Bishop Wilson at Senior Camp 2000 was an incredible experience. That was my first major production as part of the Directors Staff. But one in particular is forever burned in my mind. It also personally showed me that GOD was in control of this one!

We were asked to come up with an Easter Production within 2 weeks. Oh boy, we were scrambling. I sat with my laptop at approximately 1:30 AM and the Lord impressed on me that he would be "Whatever I NEEDED Him to be". So I began writing a script about several people from different walks of life. From the beggar, a pregnant woman, some latch-key kids, to a woman that was in the midst of contemplating suicide. My mind was racing because I knew I didn't have a lot of time to get a cast ready, not to mention the music and that "perfect song" that was already recorded by "someone else". The very next morning, still very tired from the lack of sleep, I received a phone call, at work, from Bro. Matt Jones, our Music Pastor. We hadn't even talked about the script that we felt that God gave to us just a few hours before. I had asked him to think about a song that would fit our script when he interrupted me and said, to the effect, that, 'God gave him a song at about one o'clock in the morning'. He mentioned about a woman, some homeless kids and a troubled man. When he said the title of the song he just wrote, you can imagine that I was now wide awake with goose bumps on my goose bumps (like I have now!). The name of the song was called "I'll Be - Whatever You Need". With the help from Bro. Doug Salters, we directed, in my opinion, an awesome performance. I would also like to mention that five of the eight main cast members had never been in a major role before and performed wonderfully.

There are too many others to share. There may not be enough books to contain them all, but I would like to leave you with this thought...Jesus was consistently teaching and speaking with in the mode of a playwright. He did not have an oak pulpit on a platform. The world was his stage. From speaking hidden truths through parables, or flipping over the tables of the money changers in the temple, to gently placing a child on his knee even while rebuking the Scribes at the same time. Jesus not only told the story...He lived it! He made it real through his actions and His words...through the means of DRAMA. He left us his Script, the Word of God, to use as a template. On his final performance, he took a bow. Not a bow that gave glory to the "flesh of Jesus", but unto God. Then, he exited, stage...ah, er, UP! I can't wait for His encore!

C.O.D.E. Conference of Drama Evangelism Leaders In Drama Evangelism

We are dedicated to leading young people and drama teams in the drama evangelism of today. Our leaders have developed regional drama conferences across the U.S. to help meet the need for drama in the church atmosphere that goes beyond Christmas and Easter plays. A C.O.D.E. consists of 3 days and 2 nights. The day time offers many different electives taught by active and up-to-date Christian drama ministers. Sessions cover subjects such as; Acting, Directing, Dinner Theater, Street Drama, Dowel Rods, Mime, Lighting, Stage Design, Rehearsal Management and more. Registrants will experience 15-18 short drama pieces which may include, mime, dowel rods, song interpretation, signing to song, monologues and sketches. Registrants will also see 2 full or medium length plays. If you have delegates from your church that you would like to send to a three day Christian "drama intense" conference, please think about sending them to C.O.D.E. where they will learn from full time drama ministers.

Who Can Come to CODE?

We certainly don't want to leave anyone out of the exciting drama ministry, but we desire that anyone under the age of 16 be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
